We at Collage are dedicated to helping the next generation of musicians fulfill their aspirations, whether it’s playing professionally or just enjoying creative jam sessions with other friends. We have inaugurated two programs, one to donate instruments to young musicians who don’t have them, and another to open our space so those musicians can play there.

We started collecting band instruments on behalf of seniors who graduated from San Pedro High and did not own their own instruments, along with funds to evaluate and professionally refurbish the donated instruments. The outpouring of support was such that we were able to start matching students with instruments in 2022, and that program is accelerating and broadening. We will be posting more pictures of recipients on this page and will get some videos of the students playing, so you can hear the talent that is coming from our local community.

Collage is indebted to the generosity of John and Christine Campbell, who memorialized their son Josh Meyers by requesting donations to Collage in his memory. Below from left, George Woytovich of Collage, John and Christine, and Richard Foss of Collage with a saxophone that we purchased for a student.

Much more is happening – we are making contacts with other local schools and private teachers, and are also offering them to disabled veterans, formerly incarcerated people, and others for whom the community of musicians would be a joy and inspiration. Teachers who would like to recommend students are welcomed to contact us. They may be any age, because we believe music brings value to every life.

We are open for jam sessions on a regular basis, and are creating opportunities for students to play together. We have heard from a few working musicians, retired music teachers, and others who share our goals, and we look forward to creating even more opportunities for aspiring musicians to learn, practice, and play.
