COLLAGE is an arts venue in San Pedro that opened in July 2021.
The mission of COLLAGE is to serve both the local and broader community with programs that are adventurous yet accessible. This is done by taking an expansive view of art that can include the visual, performative, culinary, and literary world, and making culture inclusive to consider ethnicity, affinity, ability, and emerging ways people are brought together. COLLAGE builds relationships with artistic and cultural communities and provides a space where they may come together to teach, learn, and entertain.

Stephen Hodges Sonic Landscaping
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 7:30 PM
Percussionist Stephen Hodges and bassist Mike Watt have shaken up modern music separately and together. Hodges added rhythmic color and sonic diversity to albums by artists as diverse as Mavis Staples, Tom Waits, and T-Bone Burnett, while Watt followed his seminal work with the Minutemen and Firehose to a solo career in which his bass is often the lead instrument. Together they’re two-thirds of MSSV, and this evening they carve out into new territory as Stephen Hodges’ Sonic Landscaping. Come experience the newest work by two titans of modern music who have plenty of new ideas.

Acoustic Guitar Workshop With Tom Bellizia

Are you an acoustic guitar player with good basic skills who would like to improve your playing and build confidence? Performing musician Tom Bellizia will teach finger-picking and flat picking styles, bass and melodic movement, chord voicings, etc., as they apply to song performance and improvisation. Tom will share knowledge and playing experience in a positive, collaborative, fun environment.

Derek Bomback and The Serenity Band with the Frasier-Friedman Duo

Derek Bomback is a native of the South Bay and San Pedro who took some time away to bring his music to international stages. He’s back with a new sound that blends jazz, Americana, zen music and elements of improvisation. Hear this unique approach with the Serenity Band (Tony Green on bass & Breeze Smith on drums and percussion) on this special evening. The Frasier-Friedman Duo, on trumpet and guitar, will open the show.

Musical Landscapes with the Mckenna Reeve Quartet

Mckenna Reeve composes meditative, thoughtful jazz that reflects environments - a piece inspired by a train trip has a propulsive boogie rhythm, while "Sunken City” has a soft, spectral, character to the piano line. Mckenna’s tasteful drumming anchors the tunes while other instruments lead and collaborate weaving a sonic spell. This music will evoke other places and times while staying completely in the moment, and you’ll want to hear it.

The San Pedro Bay Historical Society welcomes author James Tejani

The San Pedro Bay Historical Society hosts a talk by Professor James Tejani, author of A Machine to Move Ocean and Earth: The Making of the Port of Los Angeles -- and America. In the book, Tejani examines how US westward expansion, scientific exploration, disputes over slavery, Anglo-Hispanic relations, and local figures like Phineas Banning and James Meyler led to the creation of today's mega-port, the Port of Los Angeles.

Eclectic Music Showcase

This three-act showcase features brand new bands with deep San Pedro roots and ties. “Seaside farm town boy” Cris Miller will open with haunting solo acoustic songs about things found on the road and in towns like this one. The Wild Childz, as Channing Danger and The Thing, will make you quake as you stomp, clap and shake with their gypsy fusion band. Shotgun Quartet will finish, slinging the power packed lyrics of acoustic front man Shotgun Bo and his rocking quartet.

Veteran performer Dan Janisch paints vivid word pictures with a voice that goes from a croon to a snarl, backing it with guitar sounds that draw from country, folk, and roots rock.
